The Science Horizons Program at Newton Moore SHS offers an exciting, firsthand learning experience for students passionate about biology, marine studies, wetlands, aquaculture, and health sciences. Through cutting-edge innovation and real-world applications, students explore ecosystems, conduct field research in local wetlands, engage in sustainable aquaculture projects, and investigate health sciences with a focus on emerging technologies. With access to state-of-the-art equipment, outdoor research sites, and industry partnerships, Science Horizons prepares students for future careers in environmental science, biotechnology, and healthcare—empowering them to make a real impact on the world.
Science Learning Area
The Science Learning Area at Newton Moore SHS fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and interactive discovery. Through engaging experiments, real-world applications, and cutting-edge technology, students explore the wonders of biology, chemistry, physics, and environmental science. Our passionate teachers inspire students to question, investigate, and innovate, preparing them for future studies and careers in STEM. Whether in the science lab, outdoors in our wetlands or aquaculture centre, or collaborating on exciting projects in our state-of-the-art STEM Centre, students develop a deep understanding of scientific principles and their impact on the world.
STEM
STEM at Newton Moore SHS is embedded in the science, technologies and maths curriculum. Students explore coding, robotics, computer and digital technologies along with working in teams to address and solve problems using creativity and critical thinking. Whilst STEM is not a stand-alone subject, students have opportunities for external competitions and are encouraged to use individual initiative supported by our skilled staff.
